488 Challenge Tops Out at Daytona

27 January 2018

26 January 2017 (Daytona, FL) Another sunny, breezy day greeted the Ferrari Challenge competitors on Friday.  Cooler temperatures in the morning made a fast track even faster as drivers dropped seconds from their previous best times.

Trofeo Pirelli. Cooper MacNeil (Ferrari Silicon Valley) completed the double, taking his second pole of the weekend.  But he did it by the slimmest of margins, beating Peter Ludwig (Wide World of Cars) by less than a tenth of a second.  James Weiland (Boardwalk Ferrari) completed the top three with a 1:47.360, nearly two tenths off of the ultimate pace.

Trofeo Pirelli AM. Rob Hodes (Ferrari of Washington) took pole position in the Trofeo Pirelli AM class, beating John Boyd (Ferrari of Denver) and Dave Musial (Lake Forest Sportscars).  With most drivers setting their fastest laps on the forth or even fifth lap of the session, Rob was able to find pole position pace on just his third lap, stringing together an average lap speed of nearly 119 M.P.H.

Coppa Shell. Brian Kaminsky of Ferrari of Long Island beat out Mark Fuller (Ferrari Westlake) and Chris Carel (also Ferrari of Westlake) to pole position in the Coppa Shell class.  The margins were incredibly tight.  Brian took pole by five one hundredths of a second over Mark, while Chris was a further two tenths of a second behind.

Coppa Shell AM. In the newly created Coppa Shell AM class, Thomas Tippl (Ferrari of Beverly Hills) continued his strong performance with another pole position, this time over the likes of John Megrue (Ferrari of Long Island) and Dale Katechis (Miller Motorcars).
